Other Top Level Domains

There are literally hundreds of top level domains. They are generally split up into country coded (ccTLD) and generic (gTLD) top level domains. Country coded domains have two letters and generic domain three letters or more. The two letter ccTLD for France is .fr and the three letter gTLD for network is .net

Recently other geographical or cultural definitions and TLDs have been created such as .cat (a 3 letter gTLD for Catalan language and culture) and .eu (a 2 letter ccTLD for the European Union). Some ccTLDs such as .tv (Tuvalu), .fm (Federated States of Micronesia) and .ws (Samoa) have been used to suggest television, fm radio and website respectively and their marketing has encouraged such associations.

Backordering a non .com/.uk domain name

The cost and process for any backorder of a non .com/.net domain name will depend on the registrar and the way in which the registry is operated. For certain TLDs it may not be possible to offer any backordering services although we can have an attempt to catch names under a wide range of obscure top level domains.

Where possible we will try to monitor and bid on the name for you in an expired name aftermarket auction.

If we cannot do this then we will attempt to place a backorder attempt with the current registrar and at least one other to protect against connectivity issues.

If none of these steps are possible then our basic unmonitored service offers backordering attempts for a limited range of generic and country coded TLDs through a single US based registrar.
